British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for information after rail staff were threatened and abused at Birkenhead station when they stepped in to stop a man hitting a kitten.
The incident happened on Monday, 26 September at around 10.40am.
PC Philip Shaw said: “Staff at the station became concerned when they heard a kitten screeching in pain outside the station. When they went to investigate they witnessed a man smacking the animal.
“As they tried to intervene the man turned his aggression on them, at which point they retreated inside the station and called the police. The man continued making threats and told them he would be waiting outside for them when they finished their shift.”
After reviewing CCTV, officers are today issuing an image of a man they want to speak to about the incident.
“I believe the man in the image has information about this incident. Who is he?” added PC Shaw.
Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference 287 of 10/10/2016. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
