Merseyside Fire And Rescue Service are looking for new Fire Control Operators to join our busy Control room, to help deal with emergency calls from across the whole of Merseyside.
As well as handling calls from the public, our Control team also deals with calls from organisations such as the Police, Ambulance Service and fire alarm companies.
Their role is to handle 999 calls and ensure that Firefighter crews, officers and their equipment are sent to where they are needed.
The types of incidents they deal with are varied and range from small fires to road traffic collisions to major industrial fires presenting significant threats to life and property.
But the role of a Control Room Operator is not just about taking 999 calls; they must be able to think clearly and calmly in extreme, and sometimes distressing, circumstances to identify exactly what a situation requires.
They need to be confident communicators, able to remain calm under pressure and be able to work as part of a committed team.
All these skills are vital as Control Room Operators need to gather information from callers who may be in a life-threatening situation, panicking or under severe stress.
They use specialised call handling techniques to help bring incidents to successful conclusions and must be able to process information, prioritise tasks and identify which of those has the highest level of urgency.
Normal hours of work will average 42 hours per seven days over an eight-week period on a rotational shift pattern including 12-hour days and 12-hour nights.
The role attracts a salary of £21,125 - £28,156. The closing date for this vacancy is 5pm on Friday, January 27.
