Labour’s Metro Mayor race turns nasty.
*Merseyside Labour bosses are falling out in public over which one of them
should rule Southport.*
A leaked letter from Labour's Merseyside council chiefs shows the Party
possibly even more at each other's throats than they are over their
national leadership. Council bosses from Sefton, Wirral and Knowlsey are
backing Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson against challenges from two of the
city's Labour MPs for the new post of 'City Region Mayor' which will
include being Southport Supremo.
The gloves are off and the knives are out as Bootle Labour boss Ian Maher
and his Mersey colleagues have accused Walton and Wavertree MPs
Steve Rotheram and Luciana Berger of being "in opposition to the work we
are currently doing”.
Walton MP Steve Rotheram is promising to prioritise " brownfield sites for
development to protect precious green spaces” which looks like being a
threat to the Sefton local plan which sets out proposals to develop large
areas of the green belt.
Labour Party members are currently voting for their preferred candidate
from among the three contenders. Constituency meetings to discuss the
controversial letter can not take place as such gatherings have been
suspended to counter alleged intimidation.

Perhaps they will do us a favour and cut each other's throats.

That sounds like a VERY GOOD plan to me..... leave the Green spaces alone!

Steve Rotheram would be the man for me. He's not planning to spend £7 million on setup costs such as accommodation and staffing for this new City Region like 'Uncle Joe' Anderson.
Ideally the whole thing should be abandoned. Does anyone want it apart from the politians?

Whoever gets into power, one thing is sure. We get screwed. But will this mean, like police and fire, we'll be paying yet another layer of tax on our council taxes to support Greater Liverpool and its mayor? I don't remember any councilor from any party asking me was I interested in joining the rebirth of the Merseyside County Council? Perhaps I slept through it.
