Merseyside Police is welcoming the sentences of two men for a total of 22 years imprisonment after drugs and cash to the value of over £2 million were seized from a Sefton organised crime group.

The men were imprisoned at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 17 June following a crackdown against organised crime led by Sefton CID.

36-year-old Darren Marsden from Liddell Avenue, Melling was sentenced to 12 years for possession of heroin with intent to supply and money laundering
37-year-old Joseph Courtney from Ambleside Drive, Kirkby was sentenced to 10 years for possession of heroin with intent to supply and money laundering

In addition, 30-year-old Kolbrin Omarsdottir from Swinderby Drive, Kirkby was sentenced to a conditional discharge for money laundering.

Cash And Heroin 1 A search warrant had been carried out on Tuesday, 7 July 2015 at various addresses in the Melling area. At a house on Liddell Avenue, over 13 kilos of heroin (with an estimated street value of £1.3 million), 1.2 million Euros and around £38,000 were seized and following an extensive investigation, the three were charged.

Detective Inspector Mike Dalton from Sefton CID said: "The results today are the culmination of a long-running investigation into a crime group which has caused significant harm to communities, and who we suspect of supplying drugs across Sefton and beyond.

Cash Seized 1 “The sheer scale of the operation is evident from the photographs, and to have removed so much money and cash from circulation has taken this group off our streets. We will use any means available to us to reduce their impact, and we will dismantle groups until they are incapable of operating at any level. Their ill-gotten gains have been confiscated and can be re-invested into continuing to fight organised crime.

“Vital to these investigations is continued information from those communities affected, so we can improve the quality of life for our communities. I would encourage anyone with concerns about organised crime in Sefton to contact us, and we will take action.”

Anyone with information on organised crime is asked to call Sefton CID on 0151 777 3835 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
